Every morning when I open my classroom door there are parents sweeping the SLRDP preschool playground.  It’s part of the deal. You want your kid to be ready for kindergarten, you have to do some work. Inside the SLRDP classroom I hear the children learning their letters (Who let the Y out? Y,Y,Y,Y.)  And in the afternoon everyone practices skipping and running. Why? Because by the time they reach kinder they’re supposed to be rocket scientists (or at least know their colors and how to keep hands, feet and objects to themselves). Readiness, they call it. The kids have to be ready. What will happen if this and programs like it get cut? I went down to a rally at Trinity Street Elementary School to find out.
